The Finnish cultural studies journal turns 40

Detail of the cover of Kulttuurintutkimus 40:1 by Sami Saresma.

This year’s first issue of the journal Kulttuurintutkimus (Cultural Studies), which I’m an editor-in-chief of, has been sent for printing (yes, it is still published as a printed journal, along with the digital open access edition!), and the numbers are gorgeous: 40:1. The journal has reached its 40th volume.

In the editorial board, we are currently planning some retrospective initiatives – stay tuned.

Besides, this year, the journal will become bilingual, as we will start accepting submissions written in the other official language of Finland, Swedish. The name of the journal will thus be Kulttuurintutkimus – Kulturstudier. The journal is run by The Society for Cultural Studies in Finland, established in 2008.

We also received a translation grant from the Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishing. However, we won’t use this grant for translating cultural-studies articles from Swedish into Finnish but focus on scientific articles published in foreign languages, preferable languages that are the least accessible for the majority of our readers, that is, less typically mastered by the Finnish audience.

To be updated about upcoming events, you can follow Kulttuurintutkimus on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kulttuurintutkimus) or in the newly established accounts on Twitter (@kultutlehti) and Instagram (@kultutseura). As the majority of the Finnish scientific publications, the journal is run in the Journal.fi submission system, and instructions for authors can be found here.
